Plan to arrive early for your first Feis. It would be helpful to “tag-along” with an experienced parent. You will be asked to pay a small entry fee of $10.00-$12.00 per adult.
Pick up your number. Each child receives a number on a 4x6 index card which she wears around her waist. The judges use this number when evaluating the dancers. It is helpful to carry a hole punch and yarn or safety pins to attach the number.
Pay for a program book. This will tell you what stage (there are several) your child dances on. Each dance has a corresponding number and stage. Bring a pen to circle your child’s dance numbers. These numbers are on the original syllabus and on the index card. Watch stages carefully. Large poster boards at each stage indicate the current dance numbers. Stages can move slowly and then quickly.
Dress your dancer at the Feis or bring a change of clothes.
Never approach an adjudicator or musician. If you have questions ask the Stage Manager.
Results of competitions are posted on a wall at the Feis as they are tabulated. Find the dance number and see if your child’s competition number is listed.
Medals or trophies are picked up at the awards table. You will need to know both the competition and competitor number when signing for awards.
Scores can be purchased at a modest cost and should be shown to your teacher at class.
Food and beverages are for sale at the feis.
Be Patient. Many of the Feisanna are crowded and keeping up with the stages can be stressful. Be prepared for this. You may have long waits between dances. A positive attitude and a good book go a long way!
Have Fun. In spite of all the hard work – a Feis is fun and most girls and boys truly enjoy them!
Best of Luck to all of our Dancers!!!
