What Costume Do I Wear?
Students will wear different costumes based upon their experience and level of dancing. A beginner
will wear something different from a novice, for example. If you have questions as to what you should be
wearing, please ask your teacher. A general outline is described below.
Beginners
Beginners and Advanced Beginners wear a McDade School jumper and a white blouse with a
peter pan collar.
They wear gold (yellow) bloomers underneath which can be found at
sporting goods stores or dance stores.
They also wear poodle socks, and either the school headband or scrunchie.
Beginners may also wear a skirt and white blouse instead of a school jumper.
They may also wear a bun wig if desired. This is optional and not required.
Novice
The novice dancer wears the McDade School dress.
They wear gold bloomers underneath which come with your costume.
They also wear poodle socks, and either the school headband, scrunchie or crown.
The school dresses have been redesigned using different fabrics. But students may still
also wear the older velvet dresses.
Prizewinner/Preliminary and Open Championships
Dancers in the in the open and prizewinner categories may wear solo dresses that are different
from their school costumes.
They wear bloomers and crowns that match their dress colors and poodle socks.
Bun Wigs
Bun wigs are worn by all McDade Advanced Beginner, Novice and Prizewinner dancers.
You may order your bun wigs from
